The Junction
(Israel, 2003, 52 min., Hebrew, Arabic w/subtitles)
Directed by Ilan Ziv

Parallel stories of tragedy unfold in this documentary about David Biri, an Israeli soldier, and Fahmi Abou Ammouneh, a Palestinian resident of the Nusseirat refugee camp. Both young men are remembered as the first casualties of the current Intifadah which has claimed over 4,000 lives. Friends and family members speak with striking honesty about the devastating impact of the young men's deaths. Far from a strict memorial, the film traces the despair and frustration that plague both communities and leaves us pondering the ultimate value of David and Fahmi's sacrifice.

and Seeds
(USA, 2004, 92 min., English and several languages w/subtitles)
Directed by Marjan Safinia & Joseph Boyle.

The latest feature documentary about Maine's Seeds of Peace camp focuses on the difficult psychological and emotional journey of ten teenagers who have chosen to spend three weeks living with their enemies. Directors Marjan Safinia and Joseph Boyle tell the story through the eyes of the kids themselves and bring us into a world where, despite deep tensions, Israelis and Palestinians can share a bunk, Indians and Pakistanis can talk freely, and an American can begin to conceive of life as an Afghan.
