Red Diaper Baby
(USA, 2004, 91 min., English)
Directed by Doug Pray

A deftly-shot film version of Josh Kornbluth's raucous autobiographical monologue, Red Diaper Baby is about a young American Communist's coming-of-age. Raised in Manhattan by his divorced parents - eccentric, anti-authoritarian dad and would-be sci-fi writer mom - by age six Josh is convinced he is destined to lead the revolution. He takes us on a hilarious ride toward the loss of both political and sexual innocence as he recounts his failed efforts to organize the "masses" in his kindergarten class; his shocking discovery that young Soviets prefer blue jeans to red politics; and his awkward attempts to understand the orgasm in terms of political theory.
