Meet the artists…
Parisian Arthur Joffé began his career as a press and fashion photographer. In 1980 he started writing and directing short films including Merlin, which won the Golden Palm Award at Cannes. He has gone on to co-write and direct several feature films including the Cesar Award-nominated Harem (1985), which starred Ben Kingsly and Nastassja Kinski; Italian-language Alberto Express(1990); and Let There Be Light! (1997). The 2006 MJFF will open with his latest work, Local Call.

Born in Jerusalem, Danae Elon studied film and television at New York University. Her first documentary Never, Again, Forever about the Jewish Defense League, explores the characters and lives of Jewish Fundamentalists in Brooklyn and the Occupied West Bank. Her other films include Wild Mint and Cut, a joint Israeli-Palestinian production. She is a recipient of the Eastman Kodak Cinematography Award, among others. Her documentary Another Road Home is the featured film for the MJFF's 2006 Women Filmmakers Forum.

Barbara Hammer works as producer, director, cinematographer, and editor in New York City. She started making films in 1968 and has achieved international recognition for her groundbreaking works dealing with women's issues, gender roles, lesbian relationships, and coping with aging and family. Considered a pioneer of lesbian-feminist experimental cinema, she has made over 80 films including Dyketactics (1974), Women I Love (1976), Nitrate Kisses (1992), Tender Fictions (1995), and History Lessons (2000). Hammer has received numerous awards and fellowships including the prestigious Frameline Award for making a significant contribution to lesbian and gay cinema. The 2006 MJFF will feature her latest work, Lover Other, as part of this year's LGBT Film Project.
