Le Grand Rôle
(France, 2003, 89 min., French w/subtitles)
Directed by Steve Suissa

Maurice has been playing bit parts for years and though frustrated waiting for his big break, life is happy with his beautiful beloved wife, Perla. When a famous American director arrives in Paris to shoot a Yiddish adaptation of The Merchant of Venice, Maurice lands an audition. Convinced that he's won the role of Shylock, he races home to share the good news, but Perla has news of her own. This charming feature moves from the comic to the poignant as Maurice learns to play the greatest role of his life.
