Isn't This a Time! (USA, 2004, 90 min., English) Directed by Jim Brown Harold Leventhal, the son of an immigrant janitor, grew up like many Yiddish-speaking Jews of his generation with a passionate commitment to social justice. He went on to become the legendary impresario who galvanized the folk music scene when he defied the Blacklist and booked the Weavers at Carnegie Hall in 1955. This concert film features spirited performances by Arlo Guthrie; Pete Seeger; the Weavers; Peter, Paul, & Mary and many others. Interviews with the artists, many of whom are now in their 80s, are set against a backdrop of songs that have helped define contemporary American culture. |
