Discordia
(Canada, 2004, 71 min., English)
Directed by Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal

When Benjamin Netanyahu arrives at Concordia University as a guest of the Jewish student group, Hillel, hostility erupts on campus. Pro-Palestinian students stage a protest that boils over into a violent clash with Montreal's riot police, and University officials cancel Netanyahu's speech. Hand-held video cameras capture the confrontation and the disparate points of view of activists on both sides. Among them is Aaron Maté, vice president of the student government, who is caught between his left-wing ideals and his Jewish background. The filmmakers, a pair of Concordia graduates, delve into difficult and timely questions of democracy and dissent in this provocative documentary.

with God on our Side
(Netherlands, 2005, 7 min., no dialogue)
Directed by Uri Kranot and Michal Pfeffer

Picasso's monumental anti-war painting Guernica inspired animators Pfeffer and Kranot to create this succinct and despairing portrait of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Graphically searing, it is a powerful statement on the futile, never-ending cycle of violence.
