A Cantor's Tale
(USA, 2004, 94 min., English)
Directed by Eric Greenberg Anjou

Jack Mendelson, a cantor with a personality as big as his voice, returns to his childhood neighborhood to introduce us to the golden age of Chazzanut - the cantorial art. Jackie Mason, Steven Spielberg, and Alan Dershowitz help paint the picture of 1950s Boro Park, a place and time in which it was a greater source of pride to have a brilliant cantor living down the block than the family of World Series pitcher Sandy Koufax. A skillful documentary celebrating sacred Jewish music and a bygone era of American Jewish life.
